HAIRSTYLES & CUTS TO SUIT YOUR FACE SHAPE AND HOW TO WORK OUT WHAT YOUR FACE SHAPE IS | TASH GLEED. Have you ever wondered what face shape you have? or what hair style would suit you?
As a hairdresser I get asked this daily so I thought I would make a video to show you how to determine and identify what face shape you have and then what hair styles in my opinion look best for your face shape.
So before we talk about hairstyles lets talk about face shapes. There are 6 face shapes oval, oblong, square, round, diamond and heart. To determine which one you are you need to pull back your hair and look into then mirror so you can see all the different angles of your face.
There are 8 main points you will need to know your 3 fore head points, cheek bone point, chin point and jaw points.
Once we know where these points are we can then join them to make 4 lines.
Oval- is considered to be the most desirable face shape
Oblong- can sometime be confused with the oval face shape, the difference between oval and oblong is the vertical line in the of the oblong is much longer and the horizontal line is shorter.
Square- prominent jawline, the fore head line & the jawline and the same width as well as the vertical & horizontal line.
Round- Equal length and width around
Heart- wider fore head and cheek bones and then narrows along the jaw line to the chin
Diamond- narrow fore head and jaw line, the cheeks are the widest part
Soooo now we know what face shape you are, lets move on to what hair styles in my opinion look best.
Oval- is the most pleasing to the eye so in theory you can get away with any hair style and hair cut
Oblong- The aim is to shorten you vertical line. You can easily do this by adding a full front fringe. Keep in mind to avoid long, unlayered hair as this is going to elongate your face. Best styles lots of volume and voluminous layers.
Square- Avoid hair cuts and styles that stop at the chin as this is going to bring attention to your jawline and make your face look wider instead think about airy layers around the face to break up those harsh lines. Side fringes also look fab to break up your vertical line.
Round- Avoid any bob hair cuts. If you have long air dont blowdry your layers in blowdry it out. I would also suggest having a centre part to break up that circular shape.
Heart- Shorter hair cuts look fab however if you prefer to keep your hair long, lots of layers to keep the main focus being on your chin
Diamond- You want to try and ad height to your hair, shorter styles look amazing as stereotypically someone with a diamond face shape has prominent cheek bones. However if you would like to keep your hair long I would suggest a side fringe to break up your vertical line and try to add height at your roots and body through the ends of your hair.
Thats all of my tips and tricks for determining your face shape and what hair styles and cuts suit each face shape. I hope I have inspired you to change up your hair and have given you knowledge on how to style your hair to suit you!!
